Diploma submission for design

Midterm Reviews

During the semester you have two midterm reviews:

Midterm review one

The first midterm is approximately four weeks into the semester. A schedule will be sent out beforehand, and you bring your presentation on your laptop. Your supervisor should attend, if possible.

Instructions:

  • Present your project as it is now: where you are now in the process with background research insights etc. As well as your timeline and plans for your final delivery.
  • Each project, both single and group projects, has 10 minutes in total meaning max presentation 6 minutes, and 4 minutes for feedback.
  • The Format is Pecha Kucha-like: in principle 20 slides for 20 seconds each however the exact timing and number of slides is up to you.
Midterm review two

The second midterm is approximately six weeks before the final submission. The pre-diploma students are also invited to attend. A schedule will be sent out beforehand and you bring your presentation on your laptop. Your supervisor should attend, if possible.

Instructions:

  • Time per project: 25 minutes for single projects and 35 minutes for groups.
  • Your presentation should be a maximum of 15 minutes for single projects and 20-25 minutes for groups. The rest of the 10 minutes is for feedback.

Content:

At this stage we expect you to have developed and be able to present design proposals. Your presentation should present your project as a whole and where you stand now, but make it as similar as you can at this stage, to how you think you will present it at the final presentation. We know you do not have all the answers and deliverables now, but present "the whole picture" and the status of where you are now. You must also outline what you intend to do for the rest of the project and what your deliverables will be. So include research, process and results so far.

Remember to position and define your project in the relevant field. (ex.: interaction design)

Intention:

The goal of the midterm is to give yourselves, your supervisors and others the opportunity to check your progression and see your project in relation to the criteria for evaluating the diploma. We recommend that you read the evaluation criteria sent out earlier.

Another goal is that you support and learn from each other and the feedback given.

Submission of diploma exam

You submit the diploma project in the form of a complete production, diploma report, and presentation of the project. The production may consist of models, prototypes, installations, diagrams, visualizations, mappings, and so on.

How to submit your diploma project

Diploma Report

The diploma report provides an overview of the project, the process, potential outcomes, and the student's reflections.

Digital submission

Submit your diploma report/project digitally on Moodle by the submission deadline. The PDF file must come in a reader-friendly format. If you have to include extra material in addition to the report, put this in an Appendix folder.

Spelling, grammar and sources
Make sure that you have proofread the spelling and grammar in the text, and that sources are included, whenever external references, photos, diagrams, illustrations, etc. have been used.

File formats:

  • Accepted formats: PDF, MP3, MP4 and JPEG
  • Maximum size of files: 900 MB

You cannot develop your project any further after submitting your project. You may however work on how to present and exhibit your project for the public review and in the exhibition.

A physical copy of the report

You submit a physical copy of the report in your exhibition for the examiners. It must be placed with the exhibition on the day of assembly.

Submitting models

If you have models or other objects that are part of your project, you submit them when you mount your exam exhibition.

Note that the models cannot be worked on or developed further after your diploma report is submitted. You only store the objects until you mount the project. This is in case you need the model to produce a video, or other illustrations for the exhibition or the final presentation.

Publishing Agreement

In addition to digital files for your diploma project, you must deliver a signed publication agreement. The publication agreement must be submitted in a separate folder on Moodle.
